Animation workshops hoping to draw a good crowd

April 12, 2011

Charlottetown - Come out and discover the magic of animation! The Confederation Centre Art Gallery and the Island Media Arts Festival are partnering to host cameraless animation workshops later this month. Cameraless animation involves drawing directly onto film and is a very accessible pioneering technique in animation. An introductory workshop will be held with award winning animator Jodee Samuelson accompanied by Dave Ward of the Island Media Arts Festival and BJ McCarville, visual arts educator at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery.

Explore the magic of motion, projection and sound in this series of free workshops, starting with an introductory session Thursday, April 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Schurman Family Studio. It is open to all ages.

The other workshops will continue on April 30 and May 3. A special sound production session will follow on May 7 to allow participants to create an original soundtrack to accompany this collaborative animated reel.

Then come to watch the magic unveiled! The results of the workshops will be unveiled at a public screening at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery on Wednesday, May 11, during this year's Island Media Arts Festival which runs May 12 to 15.

Please pre-register by contacting BJ McCarville at or 628-6112.
