Thursday events continue at Confederation Centre Art Gallery

July 29, 2011

Thursday evening events continue throughout August at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery with an array of sights, sounds, and ideas sure to educate and inspire. Events are free of charge and open to the public.

The month starts with insight into the Rural Readymade exhibition with curator Shauna McCabe and artists Adriana Kuiper and Ryan Suter on August 4 from 7 to 9 p.m.

McCabe will introduce the Rural Readymade show. Kuiper and Suter will speak about their current art projects and a connection to the rural lifestyle. Rural Readymade is an exhibition which brings together work by contemporary artists who start from the impulse to explore the found and the familiar in their environments, imbuing ordinary objects and elements of everyday life with new meaning.

Adriana Kuiper is an installation artist in Sackville, New Brunswick. Her recent work explores versions of modified, hidden architectural structures meant to suggest safety from extreme forces, natural and otherwise. Her work investigates provisionally built structures found in the local landscape, and she often adapts and manipulates existing instructions for "Do-It-Yourself" shelters and small buildings.

Ryan Suter is multi-disciplinary artist in Sackville as well. Focusing on the everyday/extraordinary actions in life, he attempts to simulate, manipulate and forge cinematic narratives that he finds within these actions. Suter teaches at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
