Confederation Centre of the Arts Proud to Host Two Signature Events

January 19, 2012

(Charlottetown, PE, January 18, 2012) - The Confederation Centre of the Arts is proud to be partnering with the local organizing committee of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada 2012 to host two signature events. Hockey Bar, an art exhibition combining art with a classic Canadian social environment \"the sports bar\", in the Entrance Gallery from February 4 - April 15; and, an all-Canadian hockey-themed musical concert Stolen From a Hockey Card, Thursday, February 9th at 8:00pm in the Homburg Theatre. These two signature events are must dos during the Scotiabank Hockey Days in Canada week. \"Hockey Bar combines two of Canada\'s favourite pastimes, hockey and beer,\" says Art Gallery Curator Pan Wendt of the exhibition. \"The Entrance Gallery will be transformed into a welcoming social space that features both hockey and beer-related artworks alongside Island hockey memorabilia.\"

The exhibit\'s curatorial team \"The King and I\", which includes Toronto-based Stefan Hancherow and Halifax-based Eleanor King, are organizing this diverse exhibition.

During the week leading up to Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada 2012 the exhibition will double as an actual sports bar serving drinks during \"happy hour\" (5:00-7:30 p.m.), with the two curators acting as bartenders. The show opens its first happy hour Saturday, February 4th at 5:00 p.m. Art lovers and hockey fans are invited to drop by, check out the show, and have a beer!

Stolen From a Hockey Card is a hockey-themed concert which pays tribute to Canada\'s love and passion for the game of hockey. Hosted by CBC\'s Ron MacLean, the concert celebrates the game of hockey through music and song. Featuring an all Canadian artist line up, each singer-songwriter will write their own hockey-themed song which they will perform for the first time as part of the concert. In addition to their newly-written hockey song, each artist will also perform one of their own original songs.

\"Hosting Stolen From A Hockey Card will certainly be a highlight of the entire week,\" said Rob Newson, Chair of the local organizing committee for Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada 2012. \"Musician and author Dave Bidini has compiled an impressive line-up of great Canadian artists who will transform the game of hockey into song and great celebration. This is a very special cultural component of the week and we are very excited that Islanders and hockey fans alike will have an opportunity to sit back and enjoy a great show. This will certainly be a popular ticket.\"

The line-up of artists for Stolen From a Hockey Card includes song writer Sarah Harmer, Chris Murphy of Sloan, Lennie Gallant, Stephen Stanley from Lowest of the Low, Carmen Townsend, Charlottetown\'s own Liam Corcoran of Two Hours Traffic, Bidiniband, and former New York Islanders great and Hockey Hall of Fame member Bryan Trottier. Stolen From a Hockey Card is Thursday, February 9th, 8:00 p.m. at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Homburg Theatre. Tickets are $35 (plus service fees) and can be purchased at the Confederation Centre box office in person, online at www.liveatthecentre.com or by calling 1.800.565.0278.

Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada 2012, taking place February 8th - 11th, celebrates and pays tribute to Canada\'s passion for hockey. For more information on Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada 2012 celebrations, videos and contesting visit www.hockeyday2012.ca.
