Vidéozoom. L'entre-images plays the Centre

May 23, 2013

Touring exhibition presents video shorts from seven Quebec artists
(Charlottetown, P.E.I.) - Upcoming at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery is an exhibition of video shorts from the Montreal curatorial collective known as La Fabrique d'expositions, or ‘Exhibition Factory.' Curators Louise Déry, Marie-Eve Beaupré, Audrey Genois, and Julie Belisle have selected seven videos, each four to five minutes in length and mostly language-neutral works, for this project. The exhibition was shown in Rome in late 2012 as part of an international tour.
Vidéozoom features Canadian artists Michel de Broin, Pascal Grandmaison, Sophie Bélair-Clément, Olivia Boudreau, Aude Moreau, Jacynthe Carrier, and Frédéric Lavoie and is organized by Galerie UQAM in Montreal. These installed video works are all produced by artists who define themselves as visual artists, and not primarily filmmakers. These pieces are specifically crafted for art gallery spaces and offer an exploration of the ‘moving image' in a context distinct from the everyday locations in which we usually experience our endless flow of images-the computer screen, the street, the TV, the magazine. The title, entre-images, refers to this subtle state found in-between; where artwork and the image are caught amidst the flow of the buzzing world around us.
"Vidéozoom will expose visitors to exciting work from a thriving art scene in Québec and its rich engagement with the medium of video installation. It is also a welcome opportunity to collaborate with the highly regarded Galerie de l'Université du Québec à Montréal," says Gallery Director, Kevin Rice. "And we are also pleased to be presenting a video exhibition during the Island Media Art Festival taking place in late May." Many of these artists are well established in other media and are internationally accomplished in these fields. Grandmaison is a celebrated Quebecois performance and installation artist, and photographer. Michel de Broin has worked in video but is known primarily as a sculptor, with the National Gallery of Canada having recently acquired a major outdoor work of his, entitled Majestic. Another of his sculptural works was recently presented at the Gallery as a finalist in Confederation Centre's 50th anniversary public sculpture commission.

Videozoom. L'entre-images comes to life May 25 at Confederation Centre of the Arts. The Art Gallery is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please visit
