The Confederation Centre Art Gallery is one of the largest public art gallery in Atlantic Canada and possesses a permanent collection of over 15,000 pieces including historical, modern, and contemporary Canadian works of art.

The CCAG’s permanent collection contains a key vision of Canada's past as expressed through the work of 18th, 19th and early 20th century Canadian artists who influenced the development of Canadian art and culture, including work by Cornelius Krieghoff, Théophile Hamel and Paul Peel. The foundation of the permanent collection is the large Robert Harris collection and archives, as well L.M. Montgomery’s original manuscript of Anne of Green Gables, 15 other manuscripts, and other documents and artefacts.

Work exploring social realism in the first half of the 20th century includes that of artists such as George Pepper and Kathleen Daly. The Expo ‘67 craft collection, sculptures by Gordon Smith and paintings by Christopher and Mary Pratt represent the diversity of national and regional work, and the diversity of art forms from the latter half of the 20th century.

Contemporary acquisitions include new media work by Canadian artists Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller. These works offer a glimpse of the evolution of the gallery’s permanent collection and the important role it plays within the national gallery scene as a site for the generation and presentation of programming.
