It is called ‘Spectacle de Noël’ which translates simply as ‘Christmas concert.’ Don’t be deceived, this French Christmas concert will be spectacular. The show features three members from ‘Ode à l’Acadie’ and three members from ‘Grand Dérangement,’ two very well recognized and critically-acclaimed Acadian musical groups.
“These six artists presented this Christmas concert last year in Baie Sainte-Marie in Nova Scotia to rave reviews so they decided to take it on the road this year to the three maritime provinces,” says Brenda Gallant, Director of Marketing and Development at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
Performing from Ode à l’Acadie are Isabelle Thériault (from Shippagan, NB), Monique Poirier (Notre-Dame-de-Kent, NB) and Patricia Richard (Mont-Carmel, PEI). Joining them from Grand Dérangement are Daniel LeBlanc (Saulnierville, NS), Jean-Pascal Comeau (Comeauville, NS), and Briand Melanson (Saulnierville, NS).
They will perform traditional and popular Christmas songs in both French and English, instrumental pieces, reels, step dances and a few sketches. The dynamic concert features vocals, fiddles, accordion, piano, guitar, bass, bodhran, mandolin, banjo, and drums.
“This is a wonderful partnership opportunity for the Confederation Centre of the Arts and the Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre,” says Gallant. “Not only will it be a refreshing concert promoting fabulous francophone performers, it also meets our mandate as a national arts centre for community outreach. We are very pleased to partner with the Jubilee Theatre and present this show together.”
Spectacle de Noël is Tuesday, December 4th at 8:00 p.m. at the Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre in Summerside. Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for 12 years and under.
