Charlottetown – Popular Island singer Joey Kitson will join the Confederation Centre Youth Chorus in their 30th annual Sing Noel concert on the Confederation Centre’s Mainstage on Sunday, December 16, at 3 p.m.
The chorus will sing a mixture of traditional and contemporary seasonal tunes, including Hark the Herald Angels Sing, O Come all Ye Faithful, Good King Wencelas, While Shepherds Watched, Silent Night, Away in a Manger, Coventry Carol, Ding Dong Merrily on High, In Dulci Jubilo, A Child’s Song of Christmas, and more. CBC’s Sara Fraser returns as host for this year’s concert.
Kitson has performed in some of PEI’s biggest bands, including the Rock Island Blues Band, Poppa Shine and Big City. He joined the popular Celtic-rock group Rawlins Cross in 1993, and over the next eight years garnered three East Coast Music Awards and a Juno nomination. He was a featured performer in the 2005 and 2006 Charlottetown Festival's hit musical production CANADA ROCKS! The Hits Musical Revue, and in 2007 played in both Anne of Green Gables The Musical and British Invasion.
Donald Fraser, director of the Confederation Centre’s choral music program, says that the chorus has been an important source of musical education and entertainment at the Confederation Centre of the Arts since the 1970s.
Throughout its history, the chorus has been featured in many concerts at Confederation Centre and in community events. The members recorded a CD entitled On Tour and toured extensively, travelling to Great Britain, Washington D.C., New York City, British Columbia, Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and France. In April of 2007, the chorus performed at the official rededication of the Vimy War Memorial in France.
Tickets for this PEI Presents performance are $17 and are available at the Confederation Centre Box Office at 1-800-565-0278 or online at www.confederationcentre.com. The choral music program is sponsored by Maritime Electric Ltd. PEI Presents is sponsored by Sobeys.
