Confederation Singers host sixth annual Sing Along Messiah December 28

Charlottetown - The Confederation Singers, the Confederation Centre’s adult choir, will host the sixth annual “Sing Along Messiah” at the Kirk of St. James in Charlottetown, on Friday, December 28, at 3 p.m.

Donald Fraser, Director of Choral Music at the Confederation Centre, will conduct the sing-a-long, and Ruth Ann Read-Clay will provide accompaniment on the pipe organ.

“Sing Along Messiahs” or “Messiahs from Scratch” have been held in many communities across Canada with great success. The idea behind them is to introduce a wider group of people to the magnificence and wonder of Handel’s choral work and to include them as participants. Both singers and listeners are welcome. A selection of the Messiah choruses has been chosen for the program. There will be a limited number of scores available to borrow, and those who have their own are asked to bring them along. The church will be divided into sections, and those who wish to join in the performance will be asked to sit in the appropriate section. There will also be an area for those who simply want to listen.

The Island is known for its abundance of church, university, school, and community choirs. The Singers hope that members of these choirs will join them for this event. There will be no charge for the event, but donations will be gratefully received for the Confederation Centre Youth Chorus’ tour to Washington, D.C. in April of 2008. All are welcome to this free event.

For further information, contact Donald Fraser at (902) 628-6144. The choral music program is sponsored by Maritime Electric Ltd. PEI Presents is sponsored by Sobeys.
