Charlottetown – The Confederation Centre’s Mainstage Theatre will rock to the sounds of the great English rock band Queen’s masterpiece album A Night at the Opera performed by Classic Albums Live on Friday, February 16, at 8 p.m.
An ensemble of great musicians, brought together by Classic Albums Live, will replicate A Night at the Opera - note for note and cut for cut - on the Centre’s Mainstage. Queen broke down all the boundaries in 1975 with this hard rock masterpiece. Featuring multi-layered guitars in songs like “Death on Two Legs,” “Sweet Lady,” “You’re My Best Friend” and “Bohemian Rhapsody,” this album took the world by storm!
Classic Albums Live, the brainchild of Toronto producer Craig Martin in 2003, recreates live on stage the great albums of the 1960s and 1970s, including Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, the Eagles’ Hotel California, Wings’ Band on the Run, The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club, Bob Marley’s Legend and more. Classic Albums Live’s recreations of Led Zeppelin’s Led Zeppelin II and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon at the Centre last year wowed audiences.
Each performance is a rock n’ roll recital that is faithful to the exact sound of the album. All of the musicians’ focus is put into the music; they perform the music of groups like the Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin the same way an orchestra performs the works of Mozart.
For each album, Martin works to bring together the right musicians to form the band, which can be up to 11 pieces each. Members of Classic Albums Live have played with Moist, Jesse Cooke, Bob Dylan, Nelly Furtado, Tom Cochrane, The Headstones, David Usher and Crash.
