The distinctive rock melodies of Montreal sensation Mobile will echo through the streets of Charlottetown during a free concert on June 14 in the Confederation Centre of the Art’s outdoor amphitheatre at 7:30 p.m.
Winners of the 2007 JUNO Award for New Group of the Year, friends Frank Williamson, Christian “Criq” Brais, Mat Joly, Pierre-Marc Hamelin and Dominic Viola take an innovative and inventive approach to rock music. Known for tight, energetic live performances, Mobile built a reputation in Toronto on word-of-mouth and great musical style alone.
Although new on the national rock scene, Mobile’s members have been playing together for over 15 years in various forms. Originally from Montreal, Quebec, these French-speaking mavericks moved to Toronto just as the Montreal music scene was heating up. Their counter-intuitive move paid off and they soon found themselves drawing crowds into the hundreds on weekday nights. Combining pop and rock sensibilities with musical gadgetry-know-how, Mobile creates a unique musical experience for their audience.
The group was also nominated for JUNO Rock Album of the Year for its debut CD Tomorrow Starts Today, released in Canada in 2006. It will be released in the United States on July 24. Years of practice have honed these musicians’ skills, and they’re ready to rock the Island before moving out on tour across the United States and Ontario.
This concert is being held in conjunction with the Tour de P.E.I., P.E.I.’s first-ever international women’s cycling event. The 2007 Confederation Bridge Concert Series continues throughout the summer on the following dates:
