The 2007 Confederation Centre Young Company will give a free performance of its production Alberta Fusion in Truro, Nova Scotia, on Saturday, August 4, at 3 p.m.
The performance will take place in the Victoria Park Bandshell in Truro. This is the first time that the Confederation Centre Young Company has toured outside P.E.I. since the group was formed in 1994.
Featuring a live stampede, a raucous hockey game, dinosaurs, contemporary poetry, comedy, stomp rhythms, square dancing and a rock concert, Alberta Fusion is a non-stop, high-energy theatrical celebration of the history, culture and landscape of Alberta. The musical celebrates 23 Alberta artists in song - from Wilf Carter and Ian Tyson to Feist and Nickelback. Music, dance and Calgary poet Möe Clark’s award-winning poem “Intersecting Circles” transport the audience to Alberta’s vast plains and Rocky Mountains.
Part of the 2007 Charlottetown Festival, this original production brings together 12 new Canadian triple-threats – ten from Alberta and two from Prince Edward Island. The Young Company members from Alberta are Stacey Cabaj, Bobby Callahan, Alissa Keogh, Brennan Cuff, Samantha Slater, Caitlynne Medrek, Mallory Minerson, Jason Clarke, and brothers Payne and Carson Toy. Representing P.E.I. are Kyla Cook, of Charlottetown, and Jemima Sutherland, of Cape Traverse.
Alberta Fusion is the first production in a new Young Company series called We Are Canadian, through which a different province or territory, and aspiring young performing artists from that different province or territory, will be featured each year.
The writers of Alberta Fusion are Anne Allan, artistic director of the Charlottetown Festival; Wade Lynch, associate artistic director; Kerry Gage, director of the Young Company; and Thomas Morgan Jones, assistant director. Andrew Petrasiunas is the musical director, and Emily Millar is the set designer.
The Confederation Centre Young Company is supported by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Government of Alberta. The production sponsor of the Young Company is TD Bank Financial Group. The Charlottetown Festival is sponsored by APM group, and media sponsors are The Guardian, CBC TV and CBC Radio.
