The Fathers of Confederation Buildings Trust extends hearty congratulations to Ron Broderick and Gabriel Antonacci, winners of the Chairman Spirit Award and Peter Mews Award respectively, during the Trust’s annual meeting held recently at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
H. Wayne Hambly, chair of the Trust, presented Broderick, security manager of the Centre, with the Chairman’s Spirit Award in recognition of his efforts that go well above and beyond the call of duty.
“He has carried strollers down the stairs, assisted disabled patrons, helped artists carry their packages, and ensured that the building is safe and secure,” Hambly said. “Our days just wouldn’t be the same without a warm greeting from Ron.”
David MacKenzie, CEO, presented the Peter Mews Award to Antonacci who is in his third season with the Charlottetown Company. It is given to a Charlottetown Festival company member who exhibits the most “Peter-like” spirit with their enthusiasm, professionalism, generosity and sense of humour.
Peter Mews starred as Matthew in the 1965 premier production of Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™, and nearly twenty years after. He left an indelible mark on the Festival, and following his death in 1984 the award was initiated to honour those who share his dedication and work ethic.
Antonacci has appeared in Canada Rocks!, The British Invasion, and Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™, and has still somehow found the time and energy to organize the wildly popular Late Night at Mavor’s musical showcase. “Gabe’s dedication and willingness to commit hundreds of hours of personal time has been noticed and appreciated by colleagues,” MacKenzie said before presenting the award.
