Charlottetown - The Sizzlers Fiddle Group, from Vancouver, British Columbia, will give a free The Sizzlers Fiddle Group, from Vancouver, British Columbia, will give a free public concert on Thursday, August 16, in the Confederation Centre’s outdoor amphitheatre following the Confederation Centre Young Company’s noon-time performance of Alberta Fusion.
The Sizzlers Fiddle Group has been playing together for the past six years under the guidance of founder and director Amy Florence Levinson. This group of 15 young, talented violinists range in age from 9 to 19 years old. Influenced by groups such as Les Yeux Noirs, Barrage, Veretski Pass and many others, the Sizzlers play tunes rooted in Celtic, Klezmer and traditional fiddle music along with many improvised and self composed works.
Enjoyed by audiences of all ages, the Sizzlers Fiddle Group are students at the Amati String Studio in Vancouver, a specialty music school for the study of stringed instruments. Each performer in the group trains classically in the Royal Conservatory Examination system, in addition to playing fiddle music and performing in the group.
The group performs locally at public performances including outdoor markets, festivals, special events at local schools, fundraising for charity events, retirement homes, and by request at private functions. In addition to performing at the Confederation Centre on August 16, they will also give concerts in Halifax and Cape Breton.
