Due to popular demand, the 2007 Charlottetown Festival’s hit Mainstage production, The British Invasion: A Musical Revue, has been extended until September 28, announced David MacKenzie, CEO of the Confederation Centre of the Arts, today.
Starting September 6, the show will play on Thursday and Friday nights until September 28. It was originally scheduled to close for the season on Friday, August 31.
“We are thrilled with the public’s response to The British Invasion: A Musical Revue. This hit production appeals to music lovers of all ages,” he says. “Artists like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Annie Lennox, Led Zepplin, Queen and Elton John have had a huge impact on today’s musicians and audience.”
As of August 15, ticket sales for The British Invasion have exceeded those for last year’s CANADA ROCKS! by 17.2 per cent. Islanders make up 63% of ticket purchasers, with the remainder coming from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, western Canada and the United States.
With over 80 classic songs, 125 costumes and a stellar cast, this production takes the audience on a tour through the most popular music from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s. In 1964 the Beatles burst onto the North American music scene, changing it forever. The four mop-topped lads from Liverpool, England, led the charge in a veritable invasion of British artists who had a radical impact on music in Canada, the United States and indeed around the world. In addition to the Beatles, the production features the songs of many famous British artists - from Cliff Richard, Petula Clark and Herman’s Hermits to Queen, Elton John and The Rolling Stones.
