Confederation Centre’s 2007-2008 PEI Presents programming has something for everyone

The Confederation Centre’s 2007-2008 PEI Presents program kicks off this fall with great entertainment for everyone.

This year’s program includes concerts, dance, seasonal celebrations, musical tributes, family shows, comedy, multi-cultural events and a presentation by the world-famous Moscow Circus.

Concerts presented during the fall and winter include the Barra MacNeills, country singer George Canyon and the ever-popular Blue Rodeo. The PEI Symphony brings its concert series back to the Confederation Centre, and the PEI Music Association Awards will be held at the Centre as well.

Dance performances include James Devine’s Tapeire-Driven by Rhythm, a Celtic-inspired dance production starring Devine, the world’s fastest dancer; the Atlantic Ballet Theatre Company’s production of Don Juan; dance umbrella’s 20th anniversary production; and Ballet Jorgen’s Anastasia.

The Centre celebrates Christmas with its annual party New Fashioned Christmas, the choral masterpiece Handel’s Messiah, Newfoundland’s Irish Descendants, and the Confederation Centre Youth Chorus’ annual concert Sing Noel. Featured at The Mack are a New Years Eve party, the annual Valentine’s Cabaret and a St. Paddy’s Cabaret.

The popular Classic Albums Live returns with tributes to three great albums, Pink Floyd’s The Wall, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, and The Beatles’ Abbey Road. Fans of the Blues Brothers movie and of soul music will enjoy the Official Blues Brother Revival.

The little ones will love to see the popular Backyardigans Live on Stage, based on an animated show in which five preschool friends have wonderful imaginary adventures in their backyards. Other children’s programming includes Maurice Sendak’s Little Bear Live: Winter Tales, Green Thumb Theatre’s The Invisible Girl, and Red Sky’s How the Raven Stole the Sun.

The world-famous Harlem Gospel Choir and the renowned a cappella group Black Umfolosio from Zimbabwe, will touch people’s souls with their messages of love, peace and faith during separate performances in the Mainstage Theatre.

The historic Moscow Circus will delight children and adults alike with its production A Russian Fair. Combined with Russian folk musicians, singers, dancers, human puppets, and ornate costumes and backdrops, the show combines drama, cultural history and the excitement of a Russian folk festival.

For those who love to laugh, veteran comedian Glen Foster will tickle their funny bones with his  comedy special “That Canadian Guy,” his hilarious but dead-on portrayal of the conflicted Canadian psyche. As well, some of the Island’s funniest comedians will be featured at The Mack.

Detailed information about the shows, performance dates and ticket prices are available in the PEI Presents brochure available at the Confederation Centre of the Arts, at Visitors’ information centre and in various other locations. You can also obtain more information from the Confederation Centre Box Office, by calling 1-800-565-0278, and online at www.peipresents.com. PEI Presents is sponsored by Sobeys.
