Charlottetown – The spotlight is on Anne Shirley this year and the Charlottetown Festival is thrilled to announce the casting of the lead role in Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™ for 2008.
“All eyes are on Anne this year with the 100th anniversary of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novel, and we have big plans for Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™. In a year with so much attention focused on the Anne character, we knew we had to have an actress play her onstage who exceeds our expectations,” says Confederation Centre of the Arts’ artistic director Anne Allan. “People have been asking us for months now, who will be playing Anne in 2008? We couldn’t be more excited to announce that Amy Wallis is returning for her third season with the Charlottetown Festival to play Anne Shirley.”
“Anyone who has seen the musical with Amy in the role of Anne has heard her amazing voice. Amy brings so much energy to the character. We are very pleased she’s back,” Allan adds. “We are inviting every Islander to see the musical this year. Whether you saw it last year or 40 years ago or have never seen it, this is the year we want you to join us for Anne.™”
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to play this role,” Wallis says. “Each year brings something different to the show and the role, and I wouldn’t miss this chance. It is going to be a great summer at the Charlottetown Festival – one that the cast and crew and the audiences will remember. I can’t wait for it to start!”
