Auditions for Stompin’ Tom bio to be held in Charlottetown

Charlottetown – Think you can sing Bud the Spud to a live audience night after night? Wade Lynch, associate artistic director of the Charlottetown Festival wants to hear from you. Lynch will be holding auditions April 2 and 3 for several roles in this summer’s Charlottetown Festival production of The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom.

“This is an Island story and it is important to me to cast these four very important roles with Island talent,” says Lynch who is directing the show. “Half of the first act takes place in Skinner’s Pond, PEI, and authenticity of accents is crucial.”

Ballad presents the music and life of “the man of the land” Stompin’ Tom Connors from Tom’s early years on the streets, to life in the orphanage where young Tom learned that telling stories could be the best ticket to survival, through to his breakout success in Timmins and beyond.

Audiences can expect to hear performances of some of Stompin' Tom's greatest hits, including Bud the Spud, Tillsonburg, To It and At It, Sudbury Saturday Night, and The Hockey Song.

The Ballad of Stompin’ Tom plays at The Mack on selected dates from July 3 to September 20.

The complete audition notice with all the details is attached.

AUDITION NOTICE: THE BALLAD OF STOMPIN’ TOM

The Charlottetown Festival is inviting interested actors to audition for roles in its upcoming production of THE BALLAD OF STOMPIN’ TOM, to be presented at The Mack theatre as part of the 2008 summer festival season. The biographical play, which celebrates the life and music of legendary Canadian entertainer, Stompin’ Tom Connors, was written by David Scott and is based on Connors’ own autobiographical books, BEFORE THE FAME and THE CONNORS TONE. The production will begin rehearsals in late June, open in early July and run until September 20th, 2008.

The Charlottetown Festival is seeking to engage four artists; one adult male to play multiple roles including Stompin’ Tom’s friend Gaetan (credible French-Canadian accent an asset), a young girl to play Tom’s 10-year-old sister (older girls are welcome, but must look 10ish), a teen-age boy to play Tom from ages 14-18 (tall and lanky is ideal and candidates MUST be able to sing and to play the guitar reasonably well) and a young boy to play Tom from ages 8-12 (this is a demanding acting role requiring range and discipline).

Auditions will be held in the Studio Theatre at the Confederation Centre of the Arts on Wednesday, April 2nd and Thursday April 3rd from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Call-backs may follow on Friday, April 4th. Actors are required to prepare one contemporary, memorized, monologue and will be expected to read from the text with other actors. Candidates should allow for a one-hour audition commitment to accommodate reading with others. Actors auditioning for Teen Tom will be asked to sing and play a brief country song of their choice. Please provide your own guitar.

To book audition times, please call Cindy Riley at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Theatre department at 628-6102.
