Charlottetown – A reception, dinner and silent auction to acknowledge the work and life of Marc Gallant takes place at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery April 12.
Marc Gallant was a celebrated PEI artist and activist. Among Marc Gallant's most well known causes was his effort to save Cousins Shore from inappropriate cottage development. In response to the Cousins Shore controversy, Marc was instrumental in the creation of the L. M. Montgomery Land Trust, which was established to purchase the development rights to shore line property on PEI.
Marc was a well-known collector and connoisseur of woven baskets. He assembled a large collection of fine South Asian baskets and 65 of these, representing the remainder of his estate, will be up for auction at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery. Proceeds from the auction will be used to support graphic design on Prince Edward Island.
The viewing will be from April 2 – 12 in the Gallery, and bids may be placed at anytime during this period. There will be a cocktail reception on April 12th between 5 and 7 pm in the Gallery. Associated with the auction there will be a Thai Dinner at Mavor’s Bistro and Bar on April 12th; reservations are strongly recommended.
