Charlottetown – The Confederation Centre of the Arts and APM announced their twelfth year of partnership today. For 2008, APM will renew their support as the title sponsor for the Charlottetown Festival. Beginning in 1997 with a production sponsorship for one show, APM’s support for the performing arts grew until in 2002 they became the title sponsor for the entire festival. This is the construction company’s seventh consecutive year as the major sponsor for the summer festival.
APM’s contributions to the Centre over 12 years now total $690,000. Additionally, APM has been the production sponsor for some of the most popular shows on the Mainstage, including Canada Rocks, The British Invasion, and this year, The British Invasion II America Strikes Back!
“We view our partnership with the Confederation Centre of the Arts as community driven,” says Tim Banks, president of APM. “The Confederation Centre is living proof of the creative talent here on PEI. APM wants to help showcase this for all of North America. This is the same creative way that APM operates out of PEI but services markets across Canada.”
“As a non-profit organization, the Confederation Centre generates 70% of its revenue from sponsorships and sales. APM is the single largest corporate contributor and we are fortunate to have their consistent support,” says David MacKenzie, CEO of the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
A public/private partnership for the Centre is vital to its ongoing success, MacKenzie adds, acknowledging that government recognizes the value of its role in the partnership as well.
“Without the support of sponsors, donors and government we would not be able to put on stage the quality productions that we do each year,” he says.
The 2008 Charlottetown Festival opens June 12 and runs until September 27.
