Charlottetown – The Confederation Centre of the Arts recognized the musical achievements of its Youth Chorus during its 31st annual choral music fundraising dinner and awards presentation held at the Centre last night.
Kathy Hambly, Executive Director of the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce, emceed the event. Following the dinner, guests were entertained by the Youth Chorus, which performed selections by Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, Palestrina and Eleanor Daley. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of 17 awards to Chorus members, given for qualities of loyalty, enthusiasm, singing ability, self-discipline, progress, musical potential and leadership.
The Public Relations Department Award: "To a member of the Chorus who has enhanced the image of Confederation Centre of the Arts through her participation in Confederation Centre Children's Chorus" – Rebekah Johnston
The Holman's Annual Award: "For loyalty and dependability" – Pierce Smith
The Mrs. G. Elliot Full Award: "To a boy in the Chorus who has demonstrated exceptional all-round musical ability and potential" – Tristan Lewis
The Frank J. Storey Award: "To the boy in the Chorus who by his dedication, sacrifice, regular attendance, deportment and general musicianship has made an outstanding contribution to the Choir" – Malachi Rowswell
The Catherine MacKinnon-Crabbe Award: "To a senior girl in the Confederation Centre of the Arts Children's Chorus who has shown outstanding ability combined with loyalty and enthusiasm" – Lydia Hood, Melanie Murray, Whitney Robinson
The CBC FM Award: "To a first-year member of Confederation Centre Children’s Chorus showing exceptional vocal-progress" – Claire & Emma Chilton
The Bank of Montreal Award: "For loyalty, enthusiasm and musical ability in the Confederation Centre of the Arts Children's Chorus" – Nicholas Chappell
