Ballet performs Russian mystery of Anastasia

Charlottetown – The ballet helps wrap up the PEI Presents season this spring when Ballet Jörgen: Anastasia performs on the Mainstage Theatre May 2. With only a few shows left, the Confederation Centre of the Arts’ PEI Presents finishes in May leading up to the launch of the 2008 Charlottetown Festival in June.

The mysterious fate of Anastasia, the 17-year-old daughter of Russia’s last czar, Nicholas II has fascinated people for more than 90 years. In its largest undertaking to date, Ballet Jörgen Canada follows Anastasia through the ballrooms of St. Petersburg, the Russian Revolution, her captivity, and beyond. The human drama of this young girl born into privilege and cast out into a world of immense heartache proves an extraordinarily gripping tale. Created by acclaimed choreographer and Artistic Director Bengt Jörgen, this ballet explores the emotions, aspirations and affections of this controversial character as the world is transformed around her.

Ballet Jörgen: Anastasia plays Friday, May 2, at 8:00 p.m. on the Mainstage.
