Charlottetown – The Confederation Centre Youth Arts Council has made a CD to promote local music, and they are launching the CD on Victoria Row June 28. Rock the Row launches on the outdoor stage on Victoria Row from 4:30 to 10 p.m. and promises to be an exciting evening for youth, parents, and passers-by. It will feature live music from the musicians on Rock the Row 2008. Dancing may ensue at this spectacle. Copies of the album will be for sale by Youth Arts Council (YAC) members.
“We are very excited about the launch of Rock the Row 2008. The participants have worked very hard on this project, and Islanders will be proud to hear the musical talent coming from their youth,” says Siobhan Wiggans, Education and Outreach Officer at the Centre, and project coordinator.
“The YAC album is an excellent opportunity for talented youth to get their sound out there,” says YAC member Jackie Skinner. “It's as diverse as the island itself and provides music for every listener. From country, Acadien, acoustic, and dance, this album will please the ears of all listeners and will make an excellent CD to cruise around with this summer.”
The CD features: Brandon Arsenault & Mitchell Richard; Cody Arsenault, Mitchell Gallant, & Jonathan Gallant; Bridgette Blanchard; Ashley Ellis; Ethan Fenton; Ryan Gallant; Carmen Grinton, Dana Harris, & Emily Munroe; Max Keenlyside; Alexi Ladéroute; New Royalty; Jess Palmer; Heather Ross; and Young Lungs.
The CD artwork is also handmade with several YAC members contributing their artistic talent. In all, more than fifty teens participated in its creation from auditions, recording in the studio, to creating packaging, budgeting, and spreading the word about the CD.
Rock the Row 2008 will be available after the launch at the Confederation Centre of the Arts at the Showcase Gift Shop and at the Art Gallery.
All tracks were engineered, mixed and mastered by Jon Matthews at Big Grey Sound Studio in Charlottetown. Rock the Row 2008 was produced by Jon Matthews and YAC, including members Beth Dowbiggin, Erica Groman, Patrick Forrest Jeffrey, Daniel Gordan Morgan, Jackie Skinner, and James White.
