Gallery and Cavendish Grove offer chance to make permanent sandcastles

Charlottetown – Creating concrete sand castles in the national park is the goal of an afternoon workshop presented in partnership between PEI National Park and the Confederation Centre Art Gallery. Ottawa artist Uta Riccius, the Gallery’s artist-in-residence, leads the July 12 workshop at the Cavendish Grove park site.

Using recycled plastic packaging as a mould, participants will learn how to mix concrete with coloured pigment and PEI sand to make a permanent souvenir for the backyard.

Participants can then use their unique sculptures as stepping stones or decorative lawn ornaments.

The fun takes place July 12 at Cavendish Grove from 1 to 5 p.m. The workshop is free and is open to all ages; however, youth participants should come with a parent or guardian. Please pre-register before July 11 as there are a limited number of spaces available. To pre-register, please contact Tamara Gough, gallery administrator, at 902-628-6111 or at confederationcentre.com
