Gregory Charles on the Mainstage July 13

Charlottetown – He is recognized as an actor, a host on television and radio, and of course for his smooth sounds. Gregory Charles will be at his piano on the Mainstage of the Confederation Centre of the Arts July 13 as part of the Confederation Bridge Concert Series. Coinciding with the PEI Jazz and Blues Festival, the concert features Charles accompanied by three musicians - guitar, bass and drums – and singer Kim Richardson.

Charles will perform a mix of music from all styles typical of his eclectic taste and abilities – what he plays that night will depend on the musicians’ moods and that of the audience.

Charles’ passion for music led him to study voice, string and wind instruments, ballet and tap dance. He quickly developed into a classical concert pianist. In December 2002, his career took off in a different direction when his premiere one man show Black and White experienced instant success with 87 performances, 325,000 spectators and rave reviews. The album Black and White was credited platinum in 2004 and double platinum in 2005. His album Gospel live in black and white is certified gold.

He hosts a show on Radio-Canada, Des airs de toi, and In the Key of Charles on CBC Radio Two. For more than twenty years he has directed a youth choir. In 2005, he became ambassador and artistic director for the Mondial Choral Loto-Québec, a regular summer event which for the last two years presents a 15,000 person choir and entertains 500,000 spectators.

His album I Think of You was released in October 2006 and has sold nearly 350,000 copies. Gregory Charles launched his first French album in October 2007, Loin de la lumière.
