The Confederation Centre Young Company offers you Québec à la carte

Charlottetown – This summer, the Confederation Centre Young Company will celebrate the 400th anniversary of Quebec City and the Province of Quebec in the world premiere of a new bilingual musical called Québec à la carte, starting with a special performance at 11 a.m. in the Centre’s outdoor amphitheatre on Canada Day, July 1st.

Following Canada Day, the Young Company will give free performances of Québec à la carte in the amphitheatre Monday to Saturday at noon until August 23.

Taking you from the arrival of the first European ship in Quebec City to 2008’s vibrant music scene, Québec à la carte features a historical battle, a new twist to the traditional song Alouette, music from The Triplettes of Belville, poetry, comedy, rap music, stomp rhythms, a tribute Oscar Peterson, square dancing and even disco music! Also, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the deportation of Prince Edward Island Acadians, the show includes an Acadian Suite.

Québec à la carte includes music from such artists as Suroît, Kashtin, Angèle Arsenault, Leonard Cohen, Oscar Peterson, Robert Charlebois, Cirque du Soleil, Céline Dion, Eva Avila.

This year’s Young Company is more than a “triple-threat”: not only do they dance, sing and act in both languages, but many of them are also musicians in their own right and will amaze you by their talent. The Young Company members from Quebec are Andréane Bouladier, Geneviève Dufour, Marie-Hélène Lebel, Cassandre Mentor, Maxime Paradis, Nicolas Paulhus, Anaïs Perron-Maranda, and Marie-Claude Sarault. Their P.E.I. hosts are Ian Cheverie, Christine Rahman, Mikey Santiago, and Megan Stewart.

Québec à la carte is the second production in a new Young Company series called We Are Canadian, through which a different province or territory, and aspiring young performing artists from that different province or territory are featured each year.

The writers of Québec à la carte are Wade Lynch, associate artistic director of the Charlottetown Festival, and Monique Lafontaine. The show is directed by Gab Desmond and choreographed by Stephanie Graham. Arrangements were written by David Myers who is the musical director and the co-musical director is Jacqueline Sadler. Doug Mills is the set designer.

The Confederation Centre of the Arts is pleased to present this production free of charge to its audiences; however, the Centre does look to its patrons to help it maintain the existence of this Company and the high artistic standards for which it is known. We invite you to make a contribution to this programme. Any donated amount is gratefully received.
