CIBC supporting the arts for 32 years and running

Charlottetown – Really big cheque presentations usually draw attention, and the fifteen or so children around the table playing with clay were an enthusiastic audience. CIBC executives Sylvain Vinet and Stephen Berry were at the Confederation Centre of the Arts recently to announce their continued support of the Summer Visual Arts Camps. The children were well into their clay tablet project in the Michael S. Schurman Family Studio at the Centre but took the time to meet their sponsors.

“The focus of CIBC’s support is the Young@Arts program of the Confederation Centre of the Arts. CIBC has made a donation of $10,000 to support the 2008 Summer Visual Arts Camps,” says David MacKenzie, CEO of the Centre. “This is the second consecutive year that CIBC has supported the Camp so we are pleased Mr. Vinet and Mr. Berry visited the studio to see their contribution in action.”

“Promoting education for youth is a priority for our community investment program,” said Stephen Berry, General Manager PEI, CIBC, Retail Markets. “The Confederation Centre of the Arts has served our community for many years and has been successful in attracting members from a number of communities to access programs and services. We are pleased to support the Confederation Centre of the Arts because of the innovative and effective programming that appeals to a wide array of age groups.”

CIBC has supported the Confederation Centre of the Arts each year since 1977. Their contributions to the Centre over the past 32 years now total $138,000.

Past support includes production sponsorship of major Charlottetown Festival productions such as Puttin’ on the Ritz (1994), Barachois (1999), A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline (2005) and Celtic Blaze (2006). In addition, CIBC sponsored the Confederation Brass from 2001 to 2004.
