Charlottetown -Alana Hibbert is thrilled to be involved in the Charlottetown Festival this year. This is Hibbert’s debut performance on the festival stage and she is enjoying every moment of it.
Hibbert is from Vancouver, British Columbia but has been living in Toronto for the past three years. In 2004 after first pursuing other avenues, she realized theatre is what she was destined to do. Soon after graduating from the Canadian College of Performing Arts, she moved to Toronto to begin performing. Among her favourite credits there are Little Shop of Horrors (Stagewest and Magnus Theatre) and Dreamgirls (Stagewest).
She met Anne Allan, Artistic Director of the Charlottetown Festival, at a press launch back in November. Allan thought she would be a perfect fit in the Motown section of this year’s sequel production, British Invasion II: American Strikes Back! and things went from there for Hibbert.
“I have a lot of fun performing as Aretha Franklin in the Motown section of American Strikes Back! The response we get from the audience is great and it really gets us energized,” says Hibbert.
She can also be seen performing in Anne of Green Gables -The Musical™ in the roles of Lucilla and Mrs. MacPherson, also at the Charlottetown Festival this summer.
“It is a great year to be apart of Anne™. Anne of Green Gables™ is a timeless story and with this year being the 100th anniversary of the novel, I feel it is an honour to be involved,” she adds.
Anne of Green Gables -The Musical™ plays on selected dates on the Mainstage at the Confederation Centre of the Arts until September 27.
British Invasion II: America Strikes Back! plays on selected dates on the Mainstage until August 29.
Tickets to both shows are available at the Confederation Centre’s box office at 1-800-565-0278 or online at www.charlottetownfestival.com.
