Shawna van Omme back for 8th season with the Charlottetown Festival

Shawna van Omme is home this summer for her 8th season in the Charlottetown Festival. Although van Omme spends a lot of her time in Toronto, she is originally from P.E.I, and loves coming home for the summer.

“The Charlottetown Festival is a great festival in a great city,” says van Omme. “I love performing at home with my family and friends here.”

Van Omme began taking dance lessons at dance umbrella when she was three years old and started signing when she was 12. In 2001 she made her debut with the Charlottetown Festival in the Young Company’s production of Somewhere in the World and the understudy role as Prissy Andrews in Anne of Green Gables -The Musical™.

In the fall of 2001 van Omme enrolled in the musical theatre program at Sheridan College and the following summer she landed the role of Prissy Andrews, a role she kept for five seasons.

This is van Omme’s second season performing as Mrs. Pye in Anne of Green Gables -The Musical™. She can also be seen onstage in British Invasion II: America Strikes Back!

“Both shows are a lot of fun to do. American Strikes Back is very high energy and upbeat. I really enjoy having the opportunity to do Carole King’s I Feel the Earth Move and Fleetwood Mac.”

She is also keeping busy this summer lending her talent to the vocal class at the Confederation Centre of the Arts theatre camps.

“I love helping out with the theatre camps and watching the kids develop over the week. I think the theatre camp is a great opportunity for young people.”

Anne of Green Gables -The Musical™ plays on selected dates on the Mainstage at the Confederation Centre of the Arts until September 27.

British Invasion II: America Strikes Back! plays on selected dates on the Mainstage until August 29.

Tickets to both shows are available at the Confederation Centre’s box office at 1-800-565-0278 or online at www.charlottetownfestival.com.
