Charlottetown – This Christmas season get ready to rock! The Confederation Centre of the Arts is bringing back one of the most popular shows ever to play on the Mainstage for a limited run this holiday season. The new season of PEI Presents unveils Canada Rocks Christmas, a seasonal update of the Charlottetown Festival’s Canada Rocks, on stage November 27 through December 20.
“Canada Rocks Christmas takes a return trip across the country to revisit the best music from each province and territory and discover how Christmas is celebrated across Canada,” says Wade Lynch, one of the featured performers and the director of this new show. “We’ll have lots of music from the original show along with Christmas favourites performed by Canadians.”
While the final song list is still in development, Lynch promises some of the favourites from the two seasons of Canada Rocks will definitely return, including the music of Leonard Cohen, the Guess Who, Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray, Bryan Adams and Tom Cochrane.
“There will be more than 60 songs. New to this show will also be music from Oscar Peterson and a tribute to Dr. Music, Doug Riley,” Lynch adds.
Canada Rocks Christmas reunites six star performers – Matt Minglewood, Stephanie Cadman, Joey Kitson, Shawna van Omme, Julain Molnar, and Lynch – with a band of four musicians and several dancers. The show opens November 27 with evening performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through December 20.
“Canada Rocks was a turning point for the Confederation Centre of the Arts. At the end of the second year we received so much response to bring it back, so we’re listening,” says Lynch. “There is comedy, there is music, it is going to be a great treat.”
