Charlottetown- Laura Nason is back for her second season with the Charlottetown Festival in a new role. This summer Nason performs as Josie Pye in Anne of Green Gables- The Musical ™, a role that she always dreamed of playing.
Originally from Nova Scotia, Nason was in grade 2 when she began taking ballet classes and at age 11 she combined dancing with singing after taking a theatre camp. Nason auditioned for Anne of Green Gables- The Musical™ in Toronto two years ago and landed the role of Gertie Pye. This season there was an opening for Josie Pye and she was thrilled to get it.
“Anne has always been a big part of my life and it was a career goal of mine to play the role of Josie Pye,” says Nason. “In this role, I have a lot of fun exploring the bratty, troublemaker character.”
Also playing this summer at the Charlottetown Festival is British Invasion II: America Strikes Back! in which Nason performs Sinead O’Connor’s Nothing Compares To You and as Cher in I Got You Babe.
“It was a challenge for me to get the voice of Cher down correctly but I had a lot of fun working on it. America Strikes Back! is a great show that I just love being a part of.”
Nason is also enjoying spending her Saturday nights at The Mack for Late Night. She relishes the opportunity to express herself through the music she loves.
“Late Night gives us an opportunity to sing anything we want with a live band, and the support we get is amazing. I was shocked at the amount of people that come out every Saturday night to support us and listen to us do what we love to do.”
