Charlottetown – The cast of the Charlottetown Festival hit, British Invasion II: America Strikes Back! is joining the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run For The Cure. The Thursday, September 18 performance of the show has been designated as Think Pink night. Patrons booking tickets for the performance will be asked if they would like to make a donation to the Run when they are purchasing tickets. Donations can be made over the phone or in person. Donations of $10 or more will receive tax receipts.
Volunteers for the Run will also be accepting donations at the performance and will have an information table set up. Think Pink awareness week runs September 14 to 19 leading up to the Run For the Cure on Sunday, October 5.
This event is the brainchild of Festival cast member, Kara Purdy, who appears as Sheena Easton and in Fleetwood Mac, among other roles, in America Strikes Back!
“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to show our appreciation of CIBC’s continued support of the Charlottetown Festival and, in turn, raise critical funds and awareness to an ever-growing disease,” says Purdy. “Breast cancer has become so prominent these days. I myself had a lumpectomy at the age of twenty-three, which was luckily benign, but two close friends were diagnosed with breast cancer in their 20s. That’s scary. We must do what we can to find a cure.”
Ushers will be wearing Run For the Cure T-shirts on the night of the event and cast members will leave the stage during the curtain call with pink collection buckets. Cast members will wear pink ribbons on their shirts during “Imagine” in the second act.
