Charlottetown – Joey Kitson returns to the Mainstage at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in not one but two spectacular shows this fall. Starting this week, Kitson joins the Charlottetown Festival cast on stage in British Invasion II: America Strikes Back! with some extra songs added to the held over show. (Think Van Morrison and Pink Floyd, though the creative team did not want to give anything away.)
Kitson says that while it has been nice to be sitting back in the crowd this summer watching the shows at the Confederation Centre of the Arts, it is also rewarding to be back on stage. The sections added to America Strikes Back! for September include artists not yet represented in the show’s 90 songs.
“When they asked me to be part of it, I was excited to be part of the show and reconnect with the cast and staff,” he says. “The show has lots of energy, lots of great songs, it is another home run for the creative team at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.”
Then in November, Kitson reteams with six cast mates for Canada Rocks Christmas running three nights a week November 27 through December 20.
“It’s getting a lot of positive feedback. There seems to be a buzz and excitement about it,” he says, both from the artists involved and the audience. “I think it will be an interesting show and a good night of music.” Even though he does not yet know what he will be singing, Kitson is eager to share the stage again with Matt Minglewood and the rest of the cast.
“Any time I get the call from the Centre I know it’s going to be a professional production and I don’t hesitate to jump onboard,” he adds. In the meantime, he is also back in the studio with Rawlins Cross recording a new album. Despite a hiatus of seven years, the celtic-rock group is back together and playing a fund-raiser for the Children’s Wish Foundation in Halifax on September 19, the only night of the held over America Strikes Back! he will not be able to be on stage in Charlottetown.
British Invasion II: America Strikes Back! plays on selected dates on the Mainstage until September 26. Canada Rocks Christmas opens November 27 and plays selected dates until December 20. Tickets to both shows are available at the Confederation Centre’s box office at 1-800-565-0278 or online at www.charlottetownfestival.com.
