Turning off the cell phones for turkeys

Charlottetown – Cell phones ringing, ding ding ding-a-ling, in the audience in the middle of a live performance are a distraction for everyone. To showcase the best audiences with the best cell phone etiquette, the Confederation Centre of the Arts will donate a turkey to the CBC Turkey Drive for every performance of Canada Rocks Christmas that has no cell phone interruptions.

“If a cell phone rings when I’m on stage, believe me, I can embarrass its owner,” says Wade Lynch, the show’s director and one of the performers. “I guess you could say either way a turkey is going to get roasted, but we’d much prefer that we are able to donate a bird to the Turkey Drive.”

Lynch adds that this campaign is as much about raising awareness of the Turkey Drive as it is about cell phone etiquette.

“Everyone appreciates a cell phone free performance, and we hope everyone appreciates the great value of the Turkey Drive at this time of year,” he says. “Hopefully we’ll be pledging plenty of birds.”
