New Young Company to showcase PEI at home and at the Olympics

Charlottetown – The Confederation Centre Young Company will be all about PEI at The Charlottetown Festival this summer. The Young Company celebrates Prince Edward Island this year in a new 45 minute production called Abegweit - The Soul of the Island.

With music, dance and spoken word, twelve talented performers will come together to perform a bilingual show that will highlight the history and culture of the province. This is the third production in the Young Company series called We Are Canadian! that showcases a different province, territory or culture each summer during The Charlottetown Festival.

The Young Company gives free performances at noon in the outdoor amphitheatre at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Monday to Saturday beginning July 1. The final performance this year will be August 22.

Created by Anne Allan and Wade Lynch, Abegweit - The Soul of the Island will also be performed in Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Auditions for the 2009 Young Company take place at the Confederation Centre of the Arts on Sunday, March 1. For more information on the program, please visit the Young@Arts section of www.confederationcentre.com.
