Charlottetown – Behind the Red Velvet returns for its seventh year Saturday, March 7, at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. This unique fundraising gala supports visual and performing arts programming for young people at the Centre.
“Young people are the real beneficiaries of Behind the Red Velvet. The Young@Arts program provides arts training and education in choral music, dance, and performing and visual arts classes,” says David MacKenzie, CEO of the Confederation Centre of the Arts. “Behind the Red Velvet is our major fundraiser for this programming. Young@Arts reaches more than 1,000 children each year in a wide variety of ways.”
Behind the Red Velvet has generated approximately $50,000 for Young@Arts in each of the past few years. MacKenzie says the Centre hopes to surpass that total this year.
“One of our tenets of all the effort that goes into this fabulous evening is that art improves people,” he says. “It is as simple as that. We want to provide the best opportunities in nurturing the arts with our young people.”
The evening begins with a cocktail reception in the new Studio 2. Guests will then enjoy a four course gourmet dinner on the Mainstage followed by Joey Kitson and the Doggone Blues Band. The gala event includes live and silent auctions. Auction items include original works of art, unique travel packages, weekend getaways and much more.
Bergmark Guimond Hammarlund Jones Architects have sponsored this year’s Behind the Red Velvet.
