Charlottetown – This is the final week to attend the popular Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard exhibition at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery. ‘Rocket’ Richard: The Legend – The Legacy opened in late December and has proven to be a hit with hockey fans young and old. The final day of the exhibit is March 15.
“The majority of visitors have been from PEI, but we have also had visitors from New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, actually every province, I believe,” says Kevin Rice, Interim Director of the gallery. “A group from Australia that was visiting the Îles de la Madeleine heard about the exhibit and came here specifically to see it.”
One of the most popular features is a true and false quiz with nine questions about Richard and his career. Only four people have been able to answer all the questions correctly on the first try. One was a nine year old boy and another an 86 year old man.
“Parents with younger children as well as seasoned fans who had watched ‘The Rocket’ on ice commented on how much they enjoyed the exhibition,” Rice adds. “A surprising number of people mentioned they had met Richard. It’s been an exciting and meaningful exhibition.”
Showcasing the life and career of one of Canada’s greatest sports heroes, Maurice ‘The Rocket’ Richard, the exhibit contains 90 artifacts, including a Stanley Cup ring, Richard’s Hockey Hall of Fame ring and more. ‘Rocket’ Richard: The Legend – The Legacy was produced by the Canadian Museum of Civilization and supported by the Government of Canada. The Confederation Bridge and Scotiabank are the sponsors of the exhibition at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
