Charlottetown – Times may be tough but the generosity of Islanders continues to grow. The Confederation Centre of the Arts recent fundraiser Behind the Red Velvet generated the highest revenues in its seven year history. The annual gala event, held March 7 this year, supports visual and performing arts programming for young people at the Centre.
The 100 patrons attending Behind the Red Velvet this year raised approximately $56,000 in total revenue, a substantial increase over past years. Bergmark Guimond Hammarlund Jones Architects sponsored this year’s Behind the Red Velvet.
“The patrons had the chance to see how valuable our youth programming is when we had some of our dance umbrella students performing during the reception. Their support of the arts and arts education is vital to the training of these talented young people,” says David MacKenzie, CEO of the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
The Young@Arts program provides arts training and education in choral music, dance, and performing and visual arts classes to more than 1,000 children each year.
Live and silent auction items donated for this year’s fundraiser included exclusive travel packages and artwork by internationally acclaimed artists as well as many other items.
