African Children’s Choir brings its message of hope to PEI

Charlottetown – Helping Africa’s most vulnerable children today so they can help Africa tomorrow, the African Children’s Choir™ is bringing its message of hope to the Island. PEI Presents this Grammy nominated choir on the Mainstage Tuesday, April 7 at 8 p.m.

The African Children’s Choir™ raises awareness of the need of destitute and orphaned children in Africa and raises funds for continued development and support of the Choir’s relief and development programs. Once Choir members have completed a concert tour, they return to their homelands with the support, care and education necessary for bettering their future and that of their brothers and sisters.

Started in 1984, the African Children’s Choir™ is made up of some of the neediest and most vulnerable children in their countries. Many have lost one or both parents to poverty or disease. The choir helps these children break away from the everyday cycle of poverty and hopelessness.

Before being selected to join the Choir, children, generally aged between 7 and 11 attend Music for Life camps. These camps are fun and stimulating environments that provide a break from the daily hardships the young children face at home. Children selected to tour will spend approximately five months at the Choir Training Academy in Kampala, Uganda.

The African Children’s Choir™ is part of the Music for Life Organization, a registered charity in the USA, Canada, United Kingdom and South Africa. Vector Atlantic is sponsoring their performance in Charlottetown.

See the African Children’s Choir™ Tuesday, April 7, at 8 p.m. on the Mainstage. Tickets are $35 and $38 and are available at the box office, by calling 566-1267 or toll free 1-800-565-0278, and online at www.peipresents.com.
