Mayflower show creating new art to raise funds

Charlottetown – The Friends of the Confederation Centre are organizing the 5th annual Mayflower Art Show with some exciting changes this year.

Artists from across PEI will be invited to try their hand at creating a work on canvas using only red, blue, yellow, black and white acrylic paints. All materials, including canvasses and easels will be provided. Each painter will be given exactly one hour to produce the work.

The “paint off” will take place in the hallway of the Confederation Centre over two days, April 24 and 25. The finished works will be displayed at the Centre from April 28 to May 5. The works will be juried by local gallery owners and prizes will be awarded.

All works will be raffled off on May 6 at the Mayflower Art Show. Tickets to the show are $60 and can be purchased at the Confederation Centre box office. This is always a well attended and festive night and everyone goes home with a piece of original art produced by a local artist.

The Mayflower Art Show is a fundraiser in support of Art to the Schools, a program that enables PEI teachers to talk about visual art with their students using original works that are displayed in the public schools. The program is an engaging way to bring art into children’s lives.
