Charlottetown – Canada’s most beloved heroine comes to life onstage again with the launch of the 45th Charlottetown Festival! The Canadian classic Anne of Green Gables - The Musical™ opens the Festival with previews on the Confederation Centre of the Arts Mainstage June 18 and 19. Opening night is June 20.
This is the second opening night for Anne™ in as many months. Anne™ had a successful engagement at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre May 7 to 24 as a co-production between Dancap Productions Inc. and The Charlottetown Festival.
“The audience in Toronto loved it,” says the production’s director and choreographer, and the artistic director of The Charlottetown Festival, Anne Allan.
This P.E.I. treasure brings L.M. Montgomery’s popular novel Anne of Green Gables to life onstage. It tells the story of freckle-faced Anne Shirley with her fiery temper, passion for melodrama and penchant for misadventures as she brings laughter, love and more than a little consternation to the village of Avonlea.
More than 2.3 million people have seen Canada’s longest running musical in Charlottetown.
Anne™ stars Amy Wallis as Anne Shirley, Janet MacEwen as Marilla Cuthbert, Sandy Winsby as Matthew Cuthbert and Sean Hauk as Gilbert Blythe. Anne of Green Gables - The Musical™ is directed by Anne Allan with musical direction by Donald Fraser.
Half price preview performances of Anne™ are June 18 and 19. The show runs until September 26. Tickets are available at the Confederation Centre’s box office at 1-800-565-0278 or online at www.charlottetownfestival.com.
The Charlottetown Festival is sponsored by APM Group. Media sponsors for the Festival are The Guardian, CTV, K-ROCK and Ocean 100.
