“Something wonderful has happened in Charlottetown…”
Theatre critic Nathan Cohen said it best in his review of The Charlottetown Festival in 1965.
From June to September, only wonderful things can happen as the Festival unites Canada's finest performers, designers, playwrights, composers, and directors in a professional showcase of musical theatre and comedy.
Since its inception, the Festival has sought out and commissioned over 66 new Canadian musicals. The most popular and successful of these remains Anne of Green Gables - The Musical™. On July 27, 1965, the Festival brought L. M. Montgomery's most popular character, "Anne Shirley," to the stage in a musical by Don Harron, Elaine and Norman Campbell, and Mavor Moore.
Since its premiere, over 2.25-million people have seen Anne of Green Gables - The Musical™ at The Charlottetown Festival!
