The song list for Canada Rocks Christmas just keeps getting better. The show’s creators are fine tuning an extensive list of songs down to a manageable performance of 40 or so, including many audience favourites.

“We couldn’t do the show without Julain Molnar singing Hallelujah,” says Wade Lynch, director and one of the co-creators. “But that’s one of about 50 remarkable tunes. The fans of Canada Rocks – The Hits Musical Revue are going to hear all the songs they want, and they’re going to get more than they expect.”

Added to that they have about a dozen Christmas songs, most of them Canadian, while some are based on a Canadian version, such as Holly Cole’s interpretation of Santa Baby. Another highlight will be the cast performing the Barenaked Ladies’ version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

“Our philosophy is that from an airborne sleigh the borders are hard to determine,” Lynch jokes.

“We’ve found songs we missed the first time,” he adds. These include songs by Oscar Peterson, and Joey Kitson by popular demand will be performing a Doug Riley song. Sean Hauk was a show stopper in Canada Rocks with his Paul Anka renditions, and he’s back for more. Lynch confirms that at the insistence of Island fans they will be covering Haywire.

“There will also be original music, including a new Rawlins Cross tune, and Matt Minglewood has an original Christmas song that he is debuting in the show. There is also I Want to Get Married at Christmas from Trudeaumania, an original Canadian musical currently in development.”

Canada Rocks was a trip across Canada to discover the roots of Canadian pop music,” Lynch explains. “Canada Rocks Christmas is a sleigh ride to discover how Canadians celebrate Christmas with music.”
