The Confederation Centre Essay Contest invites high school students in grades 11 or 12 from the Province of Prince Edward Island and from the Territory of Nunavut to write an original and creative essay. The Confederation Centre Essay Contest is a part of the annual Symons Medal and Lecture on the State of Canadian Confederation that is an initiative of the Confederation Centre of the Arts furthering its unique heritage mandate as Canada’s national memorial to the Fathers of Confederation.
Confederation Centre extends essay contest deadline
Charlottetown – The Confederation Centre of the Arts is extending the deadline for students to submit essays for the Confederation Centre Essay Contest. Students now have until March 30, 2010 to enter the competition.
The Confederation Centre Essay Contest is designed to interest high school students in the topics, themes and honorees involved in the annual Symons Medal and Lecture on the State of Canadian Confederation.
Entrants must write an original and creative essay related to the 2009 lecture presented by Mary Simon, O.C., O.Q., LL.D., President of the national Inuit organization Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami. DVDs of the lecture have been provided to schools, and the lecture is also available to view on the Centre’s website.
Winning essayists will receive awards totaling $5,000. The first place essayist will receive $3,000. The second and third placed essayists will each receive $1,000.
The contest is open to all high school students in grades 11 or 12 attending public, private or home schools in the Province of Prince Edward Island and the Territory of Nunavut. The essay can be completed in English, French or Inuktitut.
