Music PEI Songs and Stories*

Music PEI Week kicks off January 20th and will feature the perennial favourite Songs and Stories Show at the Mackenzie Theatre on Thursday January 21st.

A fan favourite evening of some of the Islands best songwriters and their stories featuring host Tom Wilson & the following 2010 Music PEI Songwriter of the Year nominees: Catherine MacLellan, Dennis Ellsworth (Haunted Hearts), Teresa Doyle, Tim Chaisson, Liam Corcoran & Alec O’Hanley (Two Hours Traffic) and last years winner Meaghan Blanchard.

 Tom Wilson Bio:
Over the course of a career that now spans three decades, Tom Wilson has put together a body of work impressive in both quantity and quality. Beat Music, his first full album, was recorded in 1986 with The Florida Razors, a popular band on the Hamilton scene.

Tom struck Canadian rock gold in the ‘90s as the leader of the much loved Junkhouse, and then found a whole new audience as a crucial component of roots-rock super-group Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, with whom he now shares a label home in True North Records. He found time to release a solo debut, Planet Love, in 2001, while last year’s collaboration with Bob Lanois, The Shack Recordings, Vol. 1., was critically acclaimed.

PEI has a long history of producing or being home to some of the best songwriters in Canada. This show is a crowd pleaser with performances by the nominees for the Songwriter of the Year Award in the intimate setting of the Mac. Music PEI has partnered with the Songwriters Association of Canada and presented on of Canada’s top songwriters as host to the best of PEI’s songwriters from this year. Hear the songwriters tell the stories behind their inspiration for their songs.
