The Friends of the Confederation Centre Arts Scholarship Award Program
In addition to supporting the activities of the Confederation Centre of the Arts the main purpose of the Friends is to encourage participation, interest and education in the arts in Prince Edward Island. The Friends have established the Arts Scholarship Program to help Island students pursue their passion for the arts and recognize the contributions of the following who have played a significant role in the development of the arts in Prince Edward Island.
Mavor Moore was an actor, writer, director, producer, critic and teacher who was a major influence in the development of the arts in Canada. He helped establish Canadaian professional theatre in the 1930s and 1940s, was a pioneer of Canadian television in the 1950s and was the creator of the CBC National News. Mavor Moore founded the Charlottetown Festival and joined Elaine Campbell in writing several songs for Anne of Green Gables: The Musical. The Friends wish to honour and recognize his legendary contribution to the arts with The Friends’ Mavor Moore Memorial Scholarship for Theatre Studies.
Elaine Campbell was co-creator of the longest running musical in Canadian history Anne of Green Gables: The Musical. She was one of the lyricists for the musical and part of the creative team - consisting of her husband Norman Campbell, Don Harron, Mavor Moore and Alan Lund - that brought L. M. Montgomery’s book to life at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in the 1960s. The Friends wish to recognize her contribution to musical theatre with The Friends’ Elaine Campbell “Bosom Friends” Memorial Scholarship for Musical Studies.
The Friends Art To The Schools program was established in 1965 by the forerunner of the Friends. It continues as a cornerstone of the Friends activities supporting education and interest in the arts by placing original works of art in Island schools for young students to study and enjoy. It has been formally recognized as a resource in the Prince Edward Island school curriculum. Several Island artists, particularly Gwen Fichaud, Eleanor Lowe and Elspeth Putnam, were instrumental in the founding of this program. The Friends’ Arts Scholarship Award Program is for Prince Edward Island high school graduating students who will be pursuing full time post secondary studies in applicable arts programs in Canada.
Three non-renewable scholarships of $500 will be offered each year.
Deadline for applications will be 1 May of each year. Successful applicants will be notified by 15 June with the scholarship presented at graduation.

2. Proof of acceptance into a Canadian post secondary program in the appropriate arts program.
2. Resume outlining the following:
. employment history
. extracurricular activities
. volunteer activities
. activities relevant to the scholarship
3. One reference letter providing a recommendation for the scholarship
4. Two references(other than family members) who may be contacted to provide reference to your achievements in the arts.
5. A short outline indicating which scholarship you wish to be considered for.
6. An original 800-1000 word essay addressing the topic which applies to the scholarship for which you wish to be considered. (Double spaced 14 font):

Discuss the importance of art education in the schools system and its role in helping you choose study in visual arts.

2.Applicants must submit Three(3) copies of the above documents.
