Introduce your child to the foundations of visual art through our kinder ART program. Visual literacy, creative technique and process will be emphasized through fun-filled sessions in drawing, painting, sculpture, craft and more.

Exploring Visual Arts (EVA)
Bring your budding young artist to the Schurman Family Studio on Saturdays for fun-filled sessions that explore the visual arts through drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, media arts and more. Emphasis is on critical thinking and visual literacy, as well as creative technique and process.

Grades 1-3, Saturdays, 11:00 a.m.–noon
Grades 4-6, Saturdays, 1:00–2:00 p.m.

Adult ClassesDrawing and Monochromatic Techniques (Beginner) Improve your drawing skills and master the grey scale with Island artist Mauricio Aristizabal. This course is designed to increase technical skills and enhance the communication of concepts through drawing. Students will initiate a conversation between the grey scale and colour theory resulting in a solid foundation that will support the move into painting. Professional life model sessions included. For ages 18 and up. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Tuesdays, 6:00–9:00 p.m., starting October 5, 2010. Acrylic Painting and PolychromaticTechniques (Intermediate)
Allow yourself to become comfortable in front of a white canvas! This course is designed to introduce students to acrylic painting and the world of colour. Building from a solid grey scale foundation, instructor Mauricio Aristizabal will introduce acrylic colour theory and prepare students to handle complex lighting and spatial situations. Working from professional life models, students will explore light and colour through figurative sculpture and acrylic painting exercises.
Ages 18 and up
Pre-registration is required as space is limited.
Thursdays, 6:00–9:00 p.m., starting October 7, 2010
Cost is $250 for 8 sessions and includes drawing and painting kits (charcoal, pastel set, white paper, grey paper, acrylic paper block, brush set, acrylic red, blue, yellow, white, and black, clay, and clay tool set) student portfolio, paper and canvas supports.

Art PD Days Keep kid’s boredom at bay by signing them up for Art PD Days in the Schurman Family Studio and Confederation Centre Art Gallery. Kids will get an in-depth look at an exhibition with a gallery guide. Afterwards, they will work with a professional artist and create a masterpiece that can find a place in your home. Space is limited so register early. Students must bring a lunch and two snacks to class each day. The Schurman Family Studio is a peanut-free environment. |  |

This March break explore the inspiring world of visual art at the Confederation Centre Schurman Family Studio. A week-long camp, mARTch Break will engage students’ imaginations with hands-on art activities, while encouraging critical thinking and visual literacy through tours of the Gallery and Theatre. Birthday Parties
Celebrate your little one’s birthday with a party at the Schurman Family Studio. Parties are led by a visual arts instructor and include an art activity, a tour and a scavenger hunt in the gallery.
Birthday parties are two hours long. The cost is $10 per child, with a minimum of 5 children – the birthday child is free!! Your choice of cookies or a fruit tray will be provided.
