Bring your budding young artist to the Schurman Family Studio Saturday mornings for fun-filled workshops that explore the arts through drawing, painting and sculpture.
smART take I Grades 2 and 3, Saturdays, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
smART take II Grades 4 to 6, Saturdays, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Winter session starts February 7, 2009. Registration fee is $90 take I, and $110 take II; 10 classes.
The Confederation Centre Art Gallery is offering Arts Access classes for youth with special needs, ages 6 to 12 and their caregivers; the program will run similarly to our regular classes, however, caregivers will accompany the child to the class and participate in the program. Brothers and sisters of participating youth are invited to take part in the program at no extra cost. Participants will explore new materials, drawing, painting and sculpture through engaging, hands-on workshops.
Classes will take place on Saturdays from 11:00-11:30 a.m., January 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 in Memorial Hall, a location easily accessible within the Confederation Centre of the Arts. The cost of the program is $80.

Introduce your child to the foundations of art through our
kinderART program. For children in kindergarten and Grade 1, Saturdays, 9:00-10:30 a.m. Winter session starts February 7, 2009. Registration fee is $90, 10 classes.
early stART is a program for parents and their babies ages 18 months to 3 years. Join other adults and their little ones and grow through art together. Wednesdays, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., starts February 4, 2009. Registration fee is $75, 10 classes.
Keep kid’s boredom at bay by signing them up for Art PD Days in the Schurman Family Studio and Confederation Centre Art Gallery. Kids will get an in-depth look at an exhibition with a gallery guide. Afterwards, they will work with a professional artist and create a masterpiece that can find a place in your home.
Registration fee is $25 per day (family rate is available for two or more students. Ages 6-11, space is limited.
Dates: February 3 and May 1, 2009. 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Loosen up and engage your whole body in the act of drawing! Have fun trying out a variety of media and techniques, and experiment with new ways of seeing. Experimental Drawing is a 4 week long course open to adults (16+.)
Previous artistic education is not necessary. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., starting October 21, 2008.
Registration fee is $110, 8 classes.
Join us March 16-20 for mARTch Break Camp, a week of fun-filled creation. Ages 6-11, space is limited. Registration fee is $125 ($25 per day; family rate available for two or more students).
Adult Art ClassesIf you are looking to learn new art skills or brush up on old ones, there is a new class for you. This spring the Confederation Centre Art Gallery is pleased to offer a new Drawing and Printmaking class designed for adults. This four-week class will begin with the introduction of fundamental drawing theories and techniques. As the weeks progress, students will apply these theories and techniques to creating linocut printmaking.
The Art Gallery is delighted to have Island-born Sandi Hartling teaching the class. Sandi has been working and studying in Newfoundland where she graduated from Sir Wilfred Grenfell College. She has returned to the Island to take on the position of visual arts instructor at the Gallery.
The four-week class will be held at the Schurman Family Studio at the Centre on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning May 20th. The cost of the class is $125 (includes all supplies and materials).

Birthday Parties
Celebrate your little one’s birthday with a party at the Schurman Family Studio. Parties are led by a visual arts instructor and include an art activity, a tour and a scavenger hunt in the gallery.
Choose from the following party themes:
Bookmaking – Learn more about the craft of bookbinding! Kids will explore several different methods and create their own unique book.
Printmaking – Print, print, print! Using safe and simple materials, kids will create both relief and collograph prints they get to bring home.
Painting – Squiggle, squish, squirt! Explore fun new techniques such as action painting and more!
Birthday parties are two hours long. The cost is $8 per child, with a minimum of 5 children – the birthday child is free!!
