Are you interested in working with arts professionals, organizing programming for your peers, and gaining volunteer experience? If you are between the ages of 15 to 18, join the Confederation Centre Youth Arts Council (CCYAC), a Young@Arts program, and gain valuable leadership skills through the arts. The CCYAC is student led and therefore organized activities are dependent on the particular interests of the group. The Council will meet monthly to discuss upcoming programming and events. Possible activities the CCYAC may make happen include: organize a night of video art, host a coffeehouse at Mavor’s, review shows and exhibitions for local media, curate an exhibition, and the Un-Prom, an event featuring local designers' interpretations of your non traditional prom dress. The Un-Prom would be showcased as a fashion show and the dresses will be for sale after the show. Because this is the first year for the arts council there is plenty of room for creativity and teens are encouraged to send their ideas for events as well. The purpose of YAC is to make the Confederation Centre more accessible to teens.

Youth Arts Council seeking ink for drawing marathon
Teenagers staying up all night and drawing on the walls of a public building. If this sounds too good to be true, the Confederation Centre of the Arts Youth Arts Council thinks you might be interested in their upcoming Drawing Marathon.
The Youth Arts Council (YAC) is holding the all night artistic event at Memorial Hall in the Confederation Centre of the Arts May 3 to May 4. Teens ages 14 to 18 are invited to draw from 8 p.m. May 3 to 8 a.m. May 4.
“There will be paper on the walls, paper on the floors, people should even bring a t-shirt to draw on,” says Siobhan Wiggans, Education and Outreach Officer at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. “The marathon is about making your mark and seeing where it takes you.”
“YAC is hosting the Drawing Marathon for all those young people who go nowhere without a pencil or need a pen stuck behind their ear in case of sudden inspiration,” says YAC member Erika Groman. “Throughout the evening there will be competitions, music that gets you places, and more.”
Registration is due by Friday April 25, along with $12 per person or $40 per team of four.
For more information or to register for the Drawing Marathon, please contact gmail.com or call 628.6111 or 628.6112.
For all creative teens out there, the Confederation Centre of the Arts is announcing an upcoming Artist Trading Card (ATC) event for youth. TeenATC will take place in the ArtGallery on May 16th, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“Artist Trading Cards are miniature works of art about the size of a credit card. ATCs can be made out of anything possible (wood, drawings, wool, pictures, etc.) for trading. Feel free to use your imagination to create something different and original,” says Mélanie Comeau, a co-op student at the Centre organizing the event. “If 50 people sign up, you will be required to create 50 ATCs for trading at the event and each participant will leave with 50 original mini masterpieces that night.”
Youth ages 13 to 18 interested in participating in TeenATC need to register to participate as an artist by April 15th. Comeau will confirm with all participants by April 18 how many trading cards they are required to make. Cards can be duplicates of one design or each one can be different. This is not a juried competition for prizes – cards are intended for trading only.
Comeau says there is no specific theme; artists are encouraged to use their creativity to create what they think will work well on a trading card. Any teens may attend the May 16 event but only registered participants can take part in the trading. There is no cost to participate or attend. To register, please contact Comeau by e-mail, gmail.com, or by phone (902) 628-6112.
