Confederation Centre Art Gallery Tours
The Art Gallery is a great place to spark imagination and explore issues pertinent to all subject areas. The aims of art gallery tours are to:
Expose students to Canadian art and its rich and diverse practice.
Engage students through looking at and discussing the arts.
Participate in experiential learning of the arts by making and creating art.
Familiarize students with the Confederation Centre of the Arts and spark a lifelong appreciation of the arts.
Before coming to the gallery, prepare your students by discussing the exhibition that will be the focus of the visit and reviewing gallery rules.
Five rules for great gallery visits are:
Art is fragile—help us take care of it by not touching it.
Use indoor voices so as not to disturb other visitors.
Do not run in the gallery.
Respect your peers and instructors; listen to the thoughts and opinions of others.
Participate—ask questions, have opinions, and try new things.
Gallery tours are usually 1 hour in length, although shorter or longer visits can be arranged to accommodate school schedules.

Arts Discovery Days, a project of Confederation Centre of the Arts in partnership with the PEI Department of Education, is a day-long program at the Centre which provides students hands-on workshops in theatre, movement, and visual arts. The content of the workshops links directly to the PEI Department of Education Social Studies curriculum for English programs. The first Arts Discovery Days took place February 6-8, 2007 for Grade 4 students and focused on the concept of exploration. Arts Discovery Days was offered for Grade 8 students from November 20-22, 2007 and focused on the concept of Canadian identity. This program was presented in partnership with pre-service teachers of the Faculty of Education, U.P.E.I., who facilitated pre-visit and post-visits in participating schools. It is our hope this program will eventually expand to include all grade levels, in both official languages.
