Confederation Centre of the Arts celebrates ‘Think Pink Week' 2012September 20, 2012Ring of Fire burns pink this Friday; a variety of events planned to raise awareness (Charlottetown) - September 17 to 21 celebrates ‘Think Pink Week' across the country and Confederation Centre of the Arts is leading a number of rose-coloured initiatives in Charlottetown, P.E.I. ‘Think Pink Week' is an annual, national awareness campaign that raises essential funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF). This year's theme is ‘help us create a future without breast cancer' and culminates with the CIBC Run for the Cure - Canada's largest, single-day volunteer-led event on September 30. "The CIBC Run for the Cure continues to be a thriving, community-driven event year after year on P.E.I.," says Meredith Smith, committee member and Confederation Centre sales manager. "As a non-profit organization, it is a major priority for the Centre to be involved in awareness initiatives that truly impact the health and well-being of Islanders and Canadians alike." Confederation Centre, Canada's national memorial to the Fathers of Confederation, will be staging a special performance of The Charlottetown Festival musical Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash this Friday that ‘Burns Pink'. Representatives from the CBCF Charlottetown Run Committee will be located in the theatre lobby pre-show and at intermission with bright pink buckets to collect donations for this cause. ‘Think Pink' merchandise will also be available near concession stands, with all proceeds going to the CBCF. Audience members are encouraged to wear pink clothing or ribbons in solidarity for all those affected by breast cancer. A number of breast cancer survivors will be in attendance to enjoy an evening of entertainment, amongst them this year's honourary event chair, Diane Nabuurs. Cast members from Ring of Fire will also be donning their judges' caps on Friday in a storefront competition for Charlottetown's best ‘Think Pink' window display. Celebrity reviewers include Judy Kovacs, Kyla Musselman, Andrew Taylor and P.E.I.'s own Aaron Hastelow - all company members in Ring of Fire, who are ecstatic to do their small part for the cause.
