Cast announced for ‘A Christmas Carol' at Confederation CentreNovember 18, 2013
Liz Gilroy-directed Christmas musical plays December 13 to 21 (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) - The full cast has been announced for Mavor Moore's hit musical staging of A Christmas Carol, playing this December in the Homburg Theatre. Confederation Centre's associate artistic director, Wade Lynch stars as Scrooge while Charlottetown Festival alum Liz Gilroy is set to direct and choreograph.
After three treasured summers as Diana Barry with The Charlottetown Festival in the 90's, Gilroy is elated to return to the Centre, this time as chef de mission. "To come back and have a chance to direct in this gorgeous theatre is an absolute gift for me," says the Toronto native, who recently directed the world premiere of the musical Not In My Backyard at the Port Stanley Festival. "Coming back to the city itself is like one big kitchen party full of long lost friends."
Sponsored by Kwik Kopy Design and Print Centre, and presented in partnership with the Holland College School of Performing Arts, this enduring holiday classic features more than 52 actors and a full orchestra.
"Our first day of rehearsal in the theatre is what I am most excited for. It is a magical day during the process where crew, musicians, creative team and cast finally come together," says Gilroy, who also starred last Christmas as Emily Hobbs in the Canadian premier of ELF! The Musical at Neptune Theatre.
A Christmas Carol features twenty students from the SOPA program-12 Dance Performance students and eight Performing Arts Foundation students. Additional casting is held by P.E.I. community theatre members, including: Justin Simard, Renae Perry, Mike Walker, Adam Gauthier, Olivia Barnes, Stephen MacDougall, Elijah Smith, Celia Koughan, Noah MacDougall, Will Millington, Doug Gallant, Oscar Cormier, and many more. "A cast this size is a scary but welcome challenge and a chance to use all the bells and whistles this great theatre has to offer," continues Gilroy. "I want to make the patrons jump out of their seats--after all, a little Christmas ‘fright' never hurt anyone."
A Christmas Carol plays December 13 to 21 in the Homburg Theatre.
